We are looking for several

Freelance language mediators (m/f/d) in Suhl (THüringen)

for the project "My Safe Space - Child-friendly spaces in accommodation for
refugees" to join our International Cooperation department as soon as possible

- on honorary basis -

"My Safe Space" is a project aimed at refugee children, young people and their families in welcome centers. It was launched in October 2024 and will be implemented in Suhl (Thüringen) welcome center over a period of three years. As part of the project, parent cafés are offered on topics such as children's rights in education, early childhood development and self-care. Educational play sessions for children are also planned. The activities are expected to start in April 2025.
 
The parent cafés take place at least every two months, while the play sessions are offered on an irregular basis. Each session lasts around 2 to 3 hours and takes place during normal office hours. The task is based on demand and is not a permanent position.
 
We are looking for language mediators for the following languages for these two offers:

  • Dari
  • Farsi
  • Arabic
  • Kurdish
  • Turkish


Your tasks

  • Consecutive interpreting for various project activities in Suhl (Thüringen) welcome center, e.g. for play and exercise activities, parent cafés, going door-to-door to personally invite residents to participate in the activities.
  • If necessary, support in translation of project materials.
  • As a prerequisite for carrying out the above-mentioned tasks, we require participation in an approximately one-hour training course on institutional child protection / safeguarding. The training is mandatory and is offered by Plan International.

Your profile

  • Experience as a language mediator in a humanitarian context is desirable
  • Very good knowledge of German or English (at least level B2) and one of the above-mentioned languages, both written and spoken
  • A professional qualification as a translator or interpreter is not required
  • Intercultural competence and empathy in interacting with people with refugee or migration backgrounds and a tolerant and respectful attitude towards other people
  • Sensitivity to the needs of children and young people

We offer you

  • a rate of 40 euros/hour (plus VAT, if applicable)
  • as well as reimbursement of the actual travel expenses to and from the work location
